What’s In A Name?

What’s in a name?

A Hell of a lot in my home!

I get allot of shit for naming my youngest son “Cash”. (More than I’ve gotten for naming my oldest son Sidney.) Just again today someone had to point out that they know of someone having a baby, and they are going to name him “Cash”. I get folks trying to a start shit about this all the time. So let me ’clear the air’ over his name:

Cash Aron-Hasil is my youngest son’s full name. He was born May 31, 2003. Johnny Cash (Who’s real first name was J.R. ) died: September 12, 2003 almost four months after Cash was born.

In 2001 his father and I were killing time before a show, and he made a joke about how we should name our next son “Cash”. Which later turned into a joke about naming him Cassius (Because I’m a big Ali fan). Well in 2002 when I got pregnant with him, we let our oldest son pick the name. I’ve already made a blog about that! You can read it here: A Boy Named Cash

So the point on this is: I name my kid that before he even died! Stop saying I rip you or “Slash” off, or stole you damn idea folks!

Now on the Cash’s middle names: Aron is with one “A” because that is how it was spelled on Elvis’ birth certificate. It’s not some much that I wanted to name him after Elvis, be to name him that in memory of my Grandmother. Who happened to be the biggest Elvis fan ever! I have all of her old Elvis records and she once even climbed over the wall at Graceland.

“Hasil” is after Hasil Adkins. Even The Cramps have covered him (”She Said” was a Hasil Adkins song). On February 15, 2003, when I was six months along with Cash, I not only got to see him play, be was able to meet him! That is when he signed my belly and we decided to name the baby after him. Sadly, Hasil Adkins passed away April 26, 2005.

But even if I did name my youngest son after Johnny Cash, I didn’t name my oldest son after Sid Vicious. My oldest son’s name is Sidney, Sid Vicious name was John Simon Richie. His name started as a joke too. We got the idea from the movie “Toy Story” that just came out on video while I was pregnant.

His full name is: Sidney Christopher-Gray. He was born July 23, 1997. “Christopher” is after “Christopher Robin” in the Winnie-The-Pooh stories and “Gray” in from: “The Picture of Dorian Gray” by Oscar Wilde.

We didn’t even really call him “Sid” much till he was three and told us he wanted to be called Sid. But then when he was eight, he decided he wanted everyone to call him Sidney again. I have no idea why… The kid is just weird like that!

Dungaree Dolly & VH1

Hey guys!

I have some very exciting news to share with all of you! I was asked to sponsor an event for VH1’s Save the Music Foundation. This organization has donated nearly $40 million worth of music instruments to over 1,500 public schools in 100 communities, improving the lives of more than 1 million children.

The 3rd Annual Big Shopping Day will be held in Hollywood, CA on April 26th. This celebrity filled event will be hosted by many celebrities including Tim Gunn from Project Runway. For the 3rd year, the foundation invites the most exclusive retailers and designers of clothing, beauty products, and accessories to set-up-shop for a fun filled, day long fundraiser themed Old-Hollywood meets Rock ‘n Roll.  I will be providing 500 Dolly Tote Bags which each guest will receive filled with tons of great products from other companies. This is an amazing charity and I am beyond excited to be a part of it!

To get more info on this event and to see the brand new tote I designed click here!

YAY!

Love,

Dolly

P.S. And I know allot of you have heard about my dad and how he has been in the hospital.; Well, he had to have emergency open heart (6 bypass surgery)… I got this news a few days after his surgery and I was so excited to tell him. He said - ‘Bethy that is the best news I could ever imagine to hear right now’. So, this is for you Pop - the guy who would lug me to and from Toronto twice a week to go to Fashion Design School. And thank you to all of you for your thoughts and prayers for him, for me, and for my family. I really appreciate it.

“So, what’s up with the Frankenstein thing?”

“So, what’s up with the Frankenstein thing?”
I’m always getting ask that. So, I’ll tell y’all…

Way back in 1998 my oldest son, Sid, was about a year old. One day my cousin called call and said she found the coolest Frankenstein toy at a junk store. She brought it over to show me, and it was just about the cutes things ever! It was called “My Friend Frank”. His chest opened up and had button to push that made noises and gears and switches. But the best part was the top of the head flipped open so you could take his brain out!

Sid was scared to death of it! He was would freak if you brought it near him! He was so damn afraid of it we would put it in the door way and use it like a “baby gate”. But after and few days he got braver and braver till he became OBSESSED with it! But being that he was only a year old, he couldn’t’t say “Frankenstein”, so since it had the cool “flip top” head, he called it: “HEAD”.

Sid was crazy over that damn toy. He dragged it around everywhere with him. In the bath, outside to play and to bed with him. And it lead to the sickest things being said in the house!

Like: “Get in bed first and I’ll give you Head.” “Mamma’s has him, she’ll give you Head” or Sidney saying; “Where Head? Give me my Head!”

Sid dosen’’t think Frankenstein is “cool” anymore. (He’s ten years old now) but I still have Head. He is sitting up on a shelve in my room. We even got Cash his own Head, (But we told him his name was “Frankie” this time) but he didn’t like him as much as Sid.

So that is how I started collecting Frankenstein junk. We could never find Frankenstein stuff for Sidney, so anytime I saw something, I got it. And as he grew out of it, I kept collecting it because it reminded me of when Sid was small.

I had been saying I was going to get a “Bride” wig since before I got pregnant with Cash (My youngest son). But it wasn’t till a few years after he was born that I got one. And the fact that I share the same birthday as Elsa Lanchester made me love wearing the damn thing even more.

But I like to read allot more into things. It so sad that all Frankie wanted was a friend, someone to share his life with, to complete him. But I also see things her way too…

I was not made to complete any man or anyone. I’m not here just for “your” happiness, I have my own to find. “Your” dreams are not my own, I have my own dreams to dream.

I have to think that it was just a little selfish for Frankie to think that she had to made him happy because she was “made” for him. I think that’s why guys are so damn crazy about the whole “Pin-Up Bride” thing. The whole point of wanting someone that is “made” just for them.

I wasn’t made for anyone but myself.

This is the “infamous” HEAD:

Here is Cash’s “Frankie”. He still has his “Flip Top” head:

If my house was on fire the one thing I would grab, (That is if the kids and pets were all out and safe!), would be HEAD!
