The Music Made Me Do It

So I usually think the “survey” thing is pretty ghay, but I’m bored and have been spending way too much time on You Tube, so I got creative with this one:

Give the name of the first song that comes to mind when you think of:

*Hometown:

Dead Boys - Sonic Reducer ~

*Family:

Ugly Kid Joe - Everything About You ~

Bwahahahahaha! Now, I’ll narrow it down a little:

My Dad:

Napoleon XIV - Funny Farm ~

My Mom:

Danzig - Mother ~

My oldest brother (*Update* Yes, Bubba):

Paul McCartney - Hey Jude ~

*Childhood:

The Descendents - I Don’t Want To Grow Up ~

*High School:

Okay, first Freshmen year:

Soul Asylum - Runaway Train ~

(If you have known since then, you know how damn FUNNY that is!)

The rest of High School:

Hole - Rock Star ~

Or:

The Descendents - I’m Not A Loser ~

*Prom:

Uh, yeah, I didn’t go to prom. I went to a Homecoming once, and danced to this song:

Radiohead - Creep ~

*First Love/Crush:

Yeah, this one is lame, even for me:

Gin Blossoms - Hey Jealousy ~

*Last Relationship/Crush:

The Ramones - You’re Gonna Kill That Girl ~

*Curent Relationship/Crush:

Social Distortion - Ball And Chain ~

(Bwahahahaha! I’m so damn funny!)

*Break-Up/Broken Heart:

Yeah, this one is dumb. NEXT!

*Best Day Of Your Live So Far:

Easy, the days I had my boys.

Johnny Cash - The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face ~

*Holiday:

The Misfits - Halloween ~

*Pets/Animals:

Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash - You Are My Sunshine ~

(My cat SUNNY)

*Drinking:

Minor Threat - Straight Edge ~

Yeah, I don’t drink.

*Drugs:

Lords of Acid - Blowing Up Your Mind ~

I couldn’t find a video for this one. Sucks, but this will do:

Violent Femmes - Kiss Off ~

*Dancing:

Yeah, I don’t dance either.

*Flowers/Trees:

Ween - Push The Little Daisies ~

*Stars/Sky:

David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust ~

*Bad Day:

The Dwarves: I Will Deny ~

*Good Day:

Ummm, no idea…

*Birthday:

Concrete Blonde - Happy Birthday ~

*Death/Funeral:

Don McLean - American Pie ~

*Last Words:

Janis Joplin - Mercedes Benz ~

Happy Birthday To Cash!

To my Cash!

Cash - February 6, 2008

Cash-Cash turns five today!

So I guess he is no longer a “baby”, it’s “Big Boy” time now.

This fall he will start Kindergarten!

It’s all down hill from here…

This song always makes me think of my boys:

For those of you that found my thing for Joey Ramone weird

Okay,
So…

A few days ago, I posted a blog were I said that I thought Joey Ramone was the hottest front man of any band ever.

(Just in case you missed it, here is the link.)

So I guess a few of ‘ya found that pretty weird, (Even for me), and even brought up my endless love for Mike Ness.

Yes, I love Mike Ness, but that doesn’t mean that I think he is “The Hottest Guy Ever”.

(Yes, I really did say that!)

So, I thought I would make a little list of who I thought was “Hot”:

(That way y’all can laugh even more at me!)

Joey Ramone

Joey Ramone - Yes, I think he is cuter than Mike Ness.

Crispin Glover

Crispin Glover - God, what I wouldn’t give to have him stalk me!

Gary Oldamn

Gary Oldman - Always beautiful! No matter what movie roll he is in!

Jeremy Irons

Jeremy Irons - “Lolita“, nuff said…

Jason Voorhees

Jason Voorhees - I’m not even joking about this! I like my man: Tall, Dark and Homicidal. And he’s a “Mamma’s Boy”. Don’t laugh! Boys that love their mothers make the best boy friends.

Tim Roth

Tim Roth - “Gridlock’d” & “Four Rooms” pretty much made me fall in love with him!

Vincent D'Onofrio

Vincent D’Onofrio - Yes, the chubby guy that freaks out in “Full Metal Jacket“.

Vincent Van Gogh

Vincent Van Gogh - If he had sent me his ear, I would have married him.

Homer Simpson

Homer Simpson - Pretty much my ideal man. He is funny, has a good job, is always faithful, and I’ve kinda got a ‘thing’ for “Beer Bellies”.

Someone that I DO NOT find attractive:

Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp - Ugh, I’m so sick of everyone going on about how “Sexy” he is. Sure, he is a bad ass actor… BUT… He need to take a shower, shave, and eat something!

Falling in LOVE with THE RAMONES all over again

So “End of the Century” has been play on cable this week, and I finally got around to watching it.

(I don’t really “watch” TV. It just kinda plays in the background.)

Well, it’s has to be five years since the last time I really listen to The Ramones.

(Not since Sidney heard a Ramones song on Jimmy Neutron and I dug out my old tapes for him to listen to.)

I had almost forgotten just how much I loved that band! Can you believe that? I must have been twelve or thirteen the first time I ever heard them, when my older brother (Bubba) gave me a handful of old tapes: Reagan Youth, The Misfits and The Ramones: All The Stuff & More Volume 1.

The summer after seventh grade I must have played that tape nonstop! So much so, that the damn tape started to drag. I still have that tape around here somewhere.

The Ramones always have and always will be the perfect Rock & Roll band! That all there is to it. Nothing will ever come close.

And I will always believe that Joey Ramones was the hottest front man ever.

(Shut up Joann!)

I can’t really put it into words…

(Once in High School, I was really wasted and watching

Rock N’ Roll High School with a group of friends. And I tried to explain why I thought Joey Ramone was so sexy, but all I really did was further prove what everyone already thought: That I was just really fuckin’ odd.)

But to me, there was something about Joey Ramone that was just so fuckin’ cool

Well, I ran across a few cool paintings that I add to my “Favorites” and yesterday the artist emailed me on devintART asking if I would mind if he did a paining of one of my “BRIDE” photos!

I told him I would be more than flattered and honored if he did so! And what do you know, the first thing this morning I got an email from him, and he sent me one of the coolest damn paintings I’ve ever seen:

“So why don’t you have any tattoos?”

I don’t have any tattoo, and I’m always getting asked why don’t I. I use to want some and even plan to get a few. Went up to the shop and had one drawn up once. Just for one reason or another, I never ended up getting one.

But at some point I look at it as everyone has a damn tattoo. (My Mom even has a few) Why not be a real individual and not get any tattoos.

Now don’t get me wrong. I love tattoos, just not on me.

Anyways, I found a Mike Ness interview from May 31, 2007 where he kinda makes the same point about how “in” tattoos are now:

SF Station Mike Ness of Social Distortion

Mike Ness of Social Distortion

The Simple Things in Life

By Matt Crawford (May 31, 2007 )

In a genre marked by failure, tragedy and self-destruction, Mike Ness is a rare example of longevity. With a music career that has lasted nearly 30 years, the southern California punk rock icon says his band Social Distortion is at its peak with its largest fan base ever. The band will perform near the tail end of full day of rock music at BFD at Shoreline Amphitheater on June 9th. Ness spoke with SF Station during a morning phone interview from his home in Orange County.

SF Station (SFS): 10am is a little early for an interview. Do you usually wake up early?

Mike Ness (MN) : Yeah, when I’m not on tour I’m in parent mode. I’m up at 6am driving my little son to school. I like getting up early and getting a jump on the day.

SFS: What is your daily routine like?

MN: I take my son to school and then my wife and I usually have a window of time to run about a hundred errands. Touring is the easy part; it’s the day-to-day stuff that gets hard.

SFS: Do you still work on cars and motorcycles when you are not on tour?

MN: I get about one day a week at the shop. I’ve got some wood in the back of my truck right now that just got stained that’s for the bedding liner of a ‘37 Chevy truck. I also need to replace the kingpin of a ‘36 Ford coup, so that will be the project for today.

SFS: Is there a project that you are particularly proud of?

MN: I’ve been collecting memorabilia and antique stuff for 20 years. I’m proud of my collection because I feel like you have to have good taste and you have to be knowledgeable and know where to find the stuff and how to buy it. From there, you have to know how to make it look right. I take a lot pride in the collection.

SFS: Do you look for items for your collection when you are on the road?

MN: It’s basically how I kill the day. I don’t do soundcheck until four o’clock usually, so I like to see a little bit of the town, look at junk stores and eat at a good vegetarian-friendly restaurant.

SFS: Have you found any hotspots in the United States?

MN: I’m hoping to go to the Alameda swap meet when I get up there. I heard it’s good. Some towns are good and some towns aren’t. Some days you spend the whole day looking at shit, but it beats spending the day sitting around a hotel room.

SFS: Is the creative work you do on cars comparable to the creative energy you use to make music?

MN: What I found early on is working on cars is just another way to express myself. It’s just like songwriting, or the way you dress, or the way you decorate your house. It’s all the same thing — self expression and an outlet.

SFS: You have said that you are chronically irritable and discontent. What makes you happy?

MN: The simple things in life make me happy: spending time with my family, a day at the shop, a good show, a good meal, or a day at the beach.

SFS: What sets you off?

MN: Ignorance is probably number 1. Living in Orange County, there is still plenty of it.

SFS: You have been performing for nearly 30 years. Is there a point in your career that stands out as a high point?

MN: I would have to say right now is a high point. Honestly, I feel that it is a phenomenon that we are more popular now than when we were on a major label and we had rotation on MTV. We have momentum now and a lineup that is incredible.

SFS: It seems like it is not a struggle for you now and you can take things at your own pace.

MN: Yeah, more or less, but we’re not rich rock starts. We are kind of a blue-collar band. We tour hard and we work hard, that is how we earn our money. Our pride has been in our live performance.

SFS: On the other end of the spectrum, what was the most difficult period in the history of Social Distortion?

MN: The first five years was kind of just a party. It was kind of hard to stop the party and get my life turned around. Getting off drugs and alcohol was pretty difficult, but once it was done it was very easy for me to direct that energy back into the band and get serious about it.

SFS: What helped you through those tough times?

MN: I think the pain was a good motivator. By the time I was 23, I had already done everything and I was looking at going to prison. I was done and in a whole world of hurt.

SFS: Do you still get tattoos?

MN: Yeah, but not because I want to. It’s only to finish what I started. I’m not as eager as I was when I was young to sit under the needle for four hours and hurt. Plus, I was into the whole tattoo thing before it got so popular. It seems like nowadays it is more of a statement if you have none.

SFS: They are everywhere.

MN: Yeah, when a soccer mom wants to talk to you about tattoos, it’s time to quit.

Kinda Sad News In My House Today…

Today I had to put one of our cats to sleep. Out of nowhere Polly got really sick, really fast.

For those of y’all that don’t know Polly’s History:

Polly once belonged to my mother’s best friend, Jan. When Jan adopted her, Polly was on her way to the “Kitty Death Row” because she didn’t like children. But Jan said that was fine with her cause she didn’t really like children that much either!

Jan never had any kids but spoiled Polly like she was her child and spent the next few years making Polly so damn rotting that NO ONE could stand her! When Jan died very unexpectedly one Christmas morning no one was sure what to do with Polly. At first everyone thought it would be best to put her to sleep. Polly had always been mean and Jan was the only person she even liked. But my mother wouldn’t hear of it and brought her home to me.

Polly lived with me for nine years and I’m pretty sure she hated me every minute of them. At times she felt more like a burden than a pet. She was mean to my kids, if she was mad at you she would pee in your room or on your things, she stole food off the table, and about 1,000 more things I could bitch about.

But last year when my cat Sunny and Sidney’s cat Samson were attacked by a dog, it was Polly that save the day but kicking the dog’s butt and sending it back down the road!

No matter what I always knew that I had to keep her. No one else would have her and a shelter would have to put her to sleep because she would be to mean to place in a home.

I was pretty sure that she was so mean that her ‘hate’ would out live us all. But out of nowhere, she just started to lose weight. Really it was over night she became just bones. She stopped eating and drinking. She started breathing really hard. Then last week her hair started falling out leaving bald spots all over her. I talked it over with my mom and family and we decided it would just be best to put her down.

I so thought I was ‘cool’ with it, but today when I loaded her up to go, I got a pain in my chest. It’s been there all day. When they asked me at the SPCA if I wanted to say “Good-Bye” to her, I climb down on the floor with her and tried to pet her. And for the first time in nine years that cat let me love and pet on her. And right now I’m crying for that damn mean old cat.

I really hope she is happy now and back with Jan.

I took these photos of her last year when she was in great health:

This photo I took April 8th, right before she started to get sick. (Yes, that is my Sunny in the background!) It’s the last photo I ever took of her:
